Ready to hunt

Hunting season open today (doe.) too much stuff to do for anything but practice. Tomorrow I hope to get some woods time.

Touch high, but good enough for a deer's vital zone. For squirrels, I can usually get closer, although if they pop their heads up at the right time, this still might work. (Shots at 22 yds.)

Fartleks

Kinda cool to look at Fartleks on a heart rate monitor compared to speed. Slowly making a comeback, I can now go for 5-7 mile runs under a 10 minute pace. Not back to where I was a couple of years ago, but still encouraging.

Too much stuff

"You buy furniture. You tell yourself, this is the last sofa I will
ever need in my life. Buy the sofa, then for a couple years you're
satisfied that no matter what goes wrong, at least you've got your
sofa issue handled. Then the right set of dishes. Then the perfect
bed. The drapes. The rug. Then you're trapped in your lovely nest, and
the things you used to own, now they own you."

Successful hunting trip last weekend.

A Dilbert of note:

So today I actually found a guy that gets in a 6, then sleeps unabashedly with lights out and feet up until 7:30 or so before heading to the cafeteria for an hour. I woke his ass up, but I have to give him credit for working the system....

He seems to have upper management written all over him.

First day of hunting season.

And while I wasn't in the woods with my bow, I still was able to soak in a beautiful morning at Burke Lake. Something about the tranquility of water and a sunrise takes you far away from the thousands of people only 100yds away.

100 down, 900 to go....

Today's Date 2/10/2012
Cumulative Miles 100.0
Today's Ahead/Behind (750) 15.75
Today's Ahead/Behind (1000) -12.33

8.8 miles today made it a nice round 100 miles so far this year. As you can see, this puts me comfortably ahead of the 750 mile/yr pace, and I'm making up ground on the 1000 mile pace (I was -20 something last Friday after our ski trip.)

8.8 miles is still a long way from hilly half-marathon I was thinking of running in May. But my pace is coming down, and the ultimate goal this year is runnning a sub 20 minute 5k for the first time in 19 years by the end of 2012.

A Job's Quote

"Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure — these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important."

When is yogurt really too old?

It said sell by April 20th. I'm assuming for this excercise that it was at least 2011.

Smelled and looked ok, so I ate it. I mean, it's already cultures, right? How bad can it get?

New Motto - Tempus Edax Rerum

Or "Time, Devourer Of All Things"

I'm in my thirties trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. All I have to do is say, "tempus edax rerum" to myself and I realize it doesn't really matter -- as long as it involves devouring of aged bourbon.

I'm taking it with a "this too shall pass" twist....

Waiting for Godot.

Vladimir: Tied?
Estragon: Ti-ed.
Vladimir: How do you mean tied?
Estragon: Down.
Vladimir: But to whom? By whom?
Estragon: To your man.
Vladimir: To Godot? Tied to Godot! What an idea! No question of it. (Pause.) For the moment.
Estragon: His name is Godot?
Vladimir: I think so.
Estragon: Fancy that. (He raises what remains of the carrot by the stub of a leaf, twirls it before his eyes.) Funny, the more you eat the worse it gets.
Vladimir: With me it's just the opposite.
Estragon: In other words?
Vladimir: I get used to the muck as I go along.
Estragon: (after prolonged reflection). Is that the opposite?
Vladimir: Question of temperament.
Estragon: Of character.
Vladimir: Nothing you can do about it.
Estragon: No use struggling.
Vladimir: The essential doesn't change.
Estragon: Nothing to be done. (He proffers the remains of the carrot to Vladimir.) Like to finish it?

Must be tough being a CA taxpayer....

Reading about the MJ memorial:

"...authorities had projected a crowd of 250,000 or more. Besides reporters and those with tickets to the memorial service, the crowd around the Staples Center perimeter numbered only about 1,000...Police had based their projection of 250,000 people on turnouts for the funerals of Princess Diana and Elvis Presley, along with the recent Los Angeles Lakers NBA championship parade...Police helicopters flew overhead, and officers patrolled on foot and bicycle."

I can't say I really think the guy was all that....apparently about 249,000 potential turnouts thought the same thing.

But the big question, how much is all this costing the taxpayers? I'm thinking there are officers looking forward to some nice OT right now.
